Kashagan field is considered the world’s largest discovery in the last 40 years, as well as the largest offshore oil field. Kashagan field represents a single hydrocarbon reservoir with oil and gas initially in place estimated at 6.4 billion tonnes (51 billion barrels) and covers an area of about 820 square km. Kashagan contains significant reserves of natural gas of more than 1 trillion cubic metres.
